2019 Annual Conference

Nearly 500 dance professionals gathered in Cleveland, June 12-15, for the Dance/USA 2019 Annual Conference. The Conference featured more than 20 breakout sessions, the 2019 awards ceremony honoring four dance leaders, more than 13 in-person member meetings, four Pre-Conference events, eight movement classes, seven pop-up dance performances, the 2019 Dance Showcase at Playhouse Square, and two inspiring keynote speakers.

The Conference took place across five venues in Cleveland and attendees from 34 states and four countries took advantage of breakout sessions and workshops on range of topics including archiving & preservation; sexual harassment; racial equity; producing, promoting, & presenting dance; organizational collaboration; and more.

Opening Night & Honors Ceremony

Dance/USA kicked off the 2019 Annual Conference with the Opening Night Celebration & Honors Ceremony on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at the Cleveland History Center in Cleveland, OH. Dance/USA celebrated the 2019 Award recipients: Terry & Sheldon Adelman, who received the Champion Award; Glenn McCoy, who received the ‘Ernie’ Award, and Dianne McIntyre, who received the Honor Award.

2019 Opening Plenary Session

The Dance/USA 2019 Annual Conference Opening Plenary session took place Thursday, June 13 at Playhouse Square in Cleveland, OH. The Opening Plenary included important announcements from Dance/USA Executive Director Amy Fitterer, a special performance by Creative Arts Dance Academy Advanced Ensemble, and a keynote address by founding artistic director of Prumsodun Ok & NATYARASA, Prumsodun Ok.

The 2019 Closing Plenary Session

The Dance/USA 2019 Annual Conference Closing Plenary session took place Saturday, June 15 at Playhouse Square in Cleveland, OH and featured Dr. S. Ama Wray, associate professor of dance at the University of California, Irvine.
